We are currently seeking a talented individual for the position of Energy Services Engineer.  The successful candidate will perform renewable technology and energy efficiency feasibility studies and performance evaluations for new and existing distributed generation applications.  Provides technical support for transmission and distribution interconnections and EPC contracts.  Provides technical program support for company's renewable energy standard by contributing to policy revisions, customer inquiries and education programs.  Provides management and/or coordination of company's renewable energy self-build projects, including collaboration with government and industry organizations.  Provides research, investigation and recommendations for company initiatives regarding renewable technologies and energy efficiency products and services.

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support for customer inquiries regarding renewable technology and energy efficiency programs for residential and commercial applications.
  • Assists or coordinates the evaluation and implementation of company's utility-scale renewable energy projects, directly or through Engineering, Procurement and Construction contracts, with regard to development of project scopes and cost estimates, technology feasibility studies, engineering design, and system testing.
  • Performs review and commissioning of site specific distributed generation grid interconnections for renewable technologies, and provides oversight for industry standards and policies to ensure safe and reliable equipment operation.
  • Conducts customer equipment performance evaluation for various renewable and energy efficiency products including space heating; domestic and commercial water heating; daylighting; geothermal heat pumps; photovoltaic, solar thermal, and wind energy equipment; and other renewable energy technologies.
  • Performs specialized renewable and energy efficiency studies regarding pricing, regulatory and incentive initiatives under the guidance of the renewable energy standard, and provides educational information in support of company objectives and industry inquiries.
  • Contributes to company's R&D strategies for industry wide renewable technology and energy efficiency products and services.  Provides review and reporting of ongoing research, emerging product development, and demonstration / pre-commercial project status.
  • Works closely with company's renewable energy program and T&D planning groups, providing technical data and study results in support of optimizing renewable project implementation, including ongoing analysis of TEP/UNSE system impacts with integration of large renewable projects.
  • Provides engineering support for the design and coordination of renewable energy projects with state and local entities as part of community initiatives or TEP/UNSE utility consortium and partnership arrangements.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to company's renewable and energy efficiency program strategies, and conducts effective communication, coordination, and team building skills in implementing company programs.  Expected to serve on ad hoc teams and multi-disciplined projects as a participant or leader, and will serve as a renewable energy technical representative for the engineering and planning groups.
  • Reports to Superintendent of Distribution Planning & Technical Services, and performs other assignments as requested in support of renewable technology evaluation and energy efficiency initiatives.
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

(Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)

  • Engineer Level I Description
  • Will have primary responsibility for small modification or revision projects.
  • May assist more experienced engineers in large projects.
  • Will assist in the review and implementation of renewable technologies and energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Requires close supervision and detailed instruction for tasks and expected results.
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires BS degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, or other engineering discipline with direct energy services experience, and
  • Less than two years professional experience in an engineering role.

Engineer Level II Description

  • Primary responsibility for medium sized projects and act as the project engineer/manager.
  • May perform technical studies as needed, and can conduct and coordinate the review and implementation of renewable technologies and energy efficiency initiatives.
  • May have several projects assigned at the same time.

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires two or more years professional experience as an Engineer I, or possesses an MSEE, with an emphasis in renewable and energy efficiency applications.
  • Shall have strong analytical capabilities and requires close supervision on new aspects of assignments.

Engineer Level III Description

  • Primary responsibility for medium to large projects and act as the project engineer/manager.
  • May have several projects or studies assigned at the same time and may assist other engineers in large projects.
  • Will conduct and coordinate the review and implementation of renewable technologies and energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Can represent TEP/UNSE when meeting with other companies or organizations.
  • Requires technical guidance and supervision on non-standard project assignments.

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires two or more years professional experience as an Engineer II, with an emphasis in renewable and energy efficiency applications.
  • Self-starter and has developed good time management skills, completing all assignments on time.
  • Has developed good leadership skills and is fully comfortable leading meetings and speaking in front of others.

Engineer Level IV Description

  • Will have primary responsibility for projects of any size or complexity and act as the project engineer/manager.
  • Will be assigned to perform technical studies as needed.
  • Follows approved standards in design with minor modification.
  • Will assist in training of less experienced engineers or technicians.

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires two or more years professional experience as an Engineer III, with an emphasis in renewable and energy efficiency applications.
  • Is able to work independently on most projects but needs technical guidance on unusual or complex projects, and supervisory approval on proposed plans.
  • Time management, technical knowledge, and economic consideration are exhibited in all assignments.
  • Basic leadership skills have been developed.

Engineer Senior Description

  • A top-level individual contributor who may be assigned complex, multiple projects that are within the section's responsibilities.
  • Approves design changes and creates new design standards.
  • Provides leadership to the section from a technical standpoint.
  • Will be the primary source of technical training for the section and will share information openly.
  • Will perform high level, independent technical studies and apply new designs and technical solutions.
  • Will provide lead representation for TEP/UNSE when meeting with other Companies or organizations.
  • Primary focus will be on technical development and providing consultation.
  • Will be assigned as a mentor to new or less experienced engineers in the section from a technical standpoint.

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires two or more years professional experience as an Engineer IV, with an emphasis in renewable and energy efficiency applications, and considerable experience with advanced or alternative energy generation technologies.
  • Proficient in all aspects of time management, project organization, and technical analysis.
  • Makes decisions independently and does not require guidance or supervision on any technical or project management duty.
  • Supports all decision making with superior technical knowledge and economic analysis.
  • Has genuine interest in technical areas and further increasing technical knowledge in their specific area.
  • Possesses strong leadership skills.
