Description
As a Lead Hand Operator, you possess highly developed leadership skills and are a team-oriented, self-motivated individual. Your exceptional interpersonal skills enable you to build rapport quickly with others, create a positive influence, motivate team members, and ensure the safe and efficient operations of the plant.  Reporting to the Site Manager, you will ensure results through the supervision, coordination and execution of operations by overseeing and undertaking the work of staff, equipment operators and sub-contractors.

The accountabilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensuring compliance with British Columbia legislation as it relates to mine water treatment facilities.
  • Ensuring compliance with performance and reporting requirements within the operating contract.
  • Supervising, coaching and ensuring optimal performance of operating staff.
  • Assisting in the delivering of training for new and existing Operators. 
  • Coordinating operating, maintenance and capital work activities.
  • Customer, stakeholder and regulatory contact and reporting as required.
  • Participating in the operations' on-call rotation.
  • Assisting with site operations as required.
  • Troubleshooting day-to-day operational issues and developing solutions to rectify these issues.
  • Other related duties as required.
Requirements

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent. 
  • Minimum of Level III certification in Water Treatment is required.
    • Individuals possessing less than this level of certification will not be considered.
  • Wastewater Treatment and other certifications will be considered an asset.
  • Two year diploma in Water or Wastewater treatment is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of directly related operating experience in water and/or wastewater fields.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience with quality management systems will be considered an asset.
  • A willingness to maintain and upgrade certifications
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and an affinity to learn other software systems as required.
  • The ability to collect, understand, manipulate and report data are critical to this position.  Writing skills are essential.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License (with 6 demerits or less). A Driver Abstract will be required.
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
  • Clearance on a security background check is required.
  • The successful candidate must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate excellent leadership and customer service skills in order to ensure client satisfaction and maintain positive relationships with both internal & external stakeholders. The candidate's customer service orientation will be supplemented with highly developed oral and written communication skills, keen attention to detail, and a high degree of accuracy.

This position requires excellent planning and organization skills as well as the ability to apply knowledge and problem-solving skills in a timely manner to respond to issues. Our best candidate will work effectively within a team dynamic as well as with minimal supervision.

Salary & Benefits

Jurisdiction: OSH

Class: 4602

Wage: $42.97 per hour

Britannia Beach Housing Allowance: Full-time permanent employees at the Britannia Beach site may qualify for the bi-weekly housing allowance program.

Hours of work: 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week.  Employees may be scheduled to work any day of the week, Monday through Sunday, depending on the current shift schedule
