Summary

Subject to limited supervision the Hauling Specialist will be responsible for the safe operation of vehicles and equipment used to perform all work associated with loading/unloading and pick-up/delivery of materials used in the course of construction, maintenance and operation of SRP's water and electric system.  Equipment operated includes, but is not limited to, single and multi-axle trucks, truck/trailer combinations, truck tractor and trailer combinations, and material handling equipment including forklifts and truck mounted cranes of all sizes. The Hauling Specialist is required to possess a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License along with HazMat and Tanker endorsements and be certified to haul over-sized, permitted loads and possess a Certified Crane Operators License in accordance with OSHA regulation 1926.400

Any one position may not include all duties nor do the example of duties include all tasks, which may be found in the position of this class.

What You'll Do

  • Operates multi-axle truck tractor and trailer combinations and includes loads requiring "Class C" permits.
  • Loads such as tractors, loaders, graders, mobile substations etc.. 
  • Operates Cranes requiring OSHA crane certification.
  • Safely and competently operates equipment incidental to loading, hauling, hazardous materials, and other work assignments.
  • Attaches and transfers trailers, trailer mounted equipment and other trail-able units.
  • Loads and unloads various materials, supplies, and equipment as necessary.
  • Prepares trucks and trailers for loading, properly secures loads for transport and affixes all flags, signs and placards required by DOT and SRP rules and regulations.
  • Operates trailer-mounted equipment towed to the jobsite for the purpose of performing assigned tasks.
  • Performs minor repairs and reports maintenance requirements.
  • Observe safety and security procedures, determine appropriate action and report potential unsafe conditions or behaviors.
  • Work with management to achieve overtime, budget and other departmental objectives.
  • Responsible for preparing and submitting all work related DOT required reporting and documentation pertaining to work assignments and/or vehicle equipment operation in a timely manner.
  • Required to transport hazardous materials and tank trailers
  • Operates truck mounted crane equipment involving loading, hauling and other related assignments
  • Operates classified vehicles to facilitate the transport and delivery of materials, supplies, machinery and equipment.
  • Must be able to read and understand the calculation and properly use load charts with or without the aid of a Load Moment Indicator (LMI) and/or Electric Crane Operating System (ECOS). Applies all related load capacity, LMI, sling and rigging charts and information for the safe operation of equipment and the handling tools.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties.  Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public.  Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work.  May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.
