Summary

Investigates and resolves claims to recover damages incurred as a result of property damage or other loss sustained by SRP. Pursues responsible parties to recover repair costs through insurance, settlement agreements, litigation, restitution hearings, and promissory notes. Strives to maximize recoverability and minimize SRP's loss. Communicates with field personnel to audit work orders. Works closely with accounting teams to verify repair charges and creates invoices in SAP. Analyzes, evaluates, and advises the Revenue Recovery Supervisor of exposures, trends, and statistics.

What You'll Do

  • Investigates, processes, and evaluates claims for damage to SRP property resulting from the negligent acts of others.  Conducts field investigations as required.
  • Interviews pertinent company personnel to obtain factual information on questionable claims prior to making a determination regarding liability.
  • Consults with defense counsel or in-house staff attorney regarding matters in pending and pre-litigation.  Cooperates and supports counsel's defense of same.
  • Counsels and negotiates with debtors and/or agents, blending a combination of professional and technical skills, which include using logical judgment and reasoning, applying legal theory, exercising good customer relation skills, and using technical expertise for individual situations.
  • Attends and contributes to litigation and proceedings as directed, answers legal correspondence or interrogatories, initiates legal pursuit through arbitration hearings and justice courts.
  • Prepares and assigns damage claims for external collection agencies and attorneys, monitors and audits the individual claims assigned for their pursuit.  Prepares monthly activity report and bi-annual write-off report.
  • Corresponds with claimant and/or witnesses; consults with law enforcement authorities to obtain support documentation to substantiate liability.
  • Supports other departments as needed using myriad skills including investigating, negotiating, and collecting on non-routine matters; i.e., skip tracing undetermined check for treasury, and land management background history for perspective lessees.
  • Establish payment arrangements with debtor/client required to meet individual's circumstances.
